I graduated with my Bachelor Degree in Commerce majoring in Marketing (and HR- like any fresh out of high school kid, I was unable to decide what I wanted to do) back in 2018. After I graduated, I got stuck into a 9-month long internship working in beauty, and I LOVED it. I was able to explore many different aspects of Marketing and found myself drawn to the ‘digital’ side of Marketing- you know, the ads, SEO and all that number stuff. I got to play around with a lot of digital marketing tools and gained some basic knowledge, which was great. However, I got a full-time job in skincare with a start-up company after my internship and that meant I had to put on my generalist Marketing hat and leave the digital stuff to the experts.
It’s been a few years since I’ve been wearing my generalist hat and I’m now making a dedicated effort to get back into the digital world, and I’m super excited because I’ll admit it- I’m a huge Marketing nerd. But like a cool nerd you know? Like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde because I only want to work in the Beauty space my whole life. I’m on a journey to rebranding myself, and education is super important to me so I’m jumping back into digital and studying. Anyway, since restarting my digital journey, here are some digital marketing tools I’ve discovered that I absolutely cannot live without!

Canva
Thank God for Canva, because my skills in Photoshop are..interesting. The whole Marketing department gets a good laugh whenever I use Photoshop and honestly, I don’t blame them. When generative AI came out, I spent an hour placing random gorillas in different photos. Anyway, enough about my poor Photoshop skills- I’m still learning, ok? I love that Canva has made designing things so easy and accessible, making it a great digital marketing tool for people who cannot afford it. It’s so much easier and quicker to use than Photoshop. While Photoshop features are extensive and you can practically create magic, I definitely prefer using Canva for simple tasks that don’t require too much fidgeting.
Google Analytics
A must-have digital marketing tool. Google Analytics is indispensable for any website owner as it empowers them with comprehensive insights into the performance of their website. By providing detailed information about visitor behavior, popular content, and referral sources, Google Analytics allows website owners to make informed decisions to optimise their content strategy. I can identify which posts resonate most with my audience, understand user demographics, and track the effectiveness of their promotional efforts.
This data-driven approach enables me to tailor my content to meet audience preferences, improve user engagement, and strategically plan future content. Ultimately, Google Analytics empowers me to refine my online presence, attract a wider audience, and achieve long-term success in the competitive digital landscape.
Chat GPT
Yeah, yeah. I hear you. AI is going to take over and replace us all. But is it going to, really? I’m using Chat GPT right now to help me write social media captions and frankly, while it’s pretty good at what it does, there is definitely a significant difference I’ve noticed. It doesn’t have heart or emotion in its writing as opposed to a real human’s work. In saying that, it has helped me out a lot when my brain is fried or can’t find any inspiration. I’m pretty impressed by it, it’s a great digital marketing tool and I do believe that it won’t be replacing copywriters anytime soon. This is actually a great topic to discuss and I’ll touch on it in a separate dedicated blog post soon so keep watching this space!
Yoast SEO
As someone with a strong interest in SEO, I obviously came across the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress and I think it’s pretty impressive. When I first started learning about SEO, I did the foundation course from the Yoast Academy, and it was a great learning experience for me. I was able to understand the basics with ease and it was quite fun. Again, I love how easy the plugin is to use for beginner bloggers and small business owners. It has helped me greatly in building out this blog, and I’m excited to use it in conjunction with Semrush to start ranking.
Semrush
Semrush is AWESOME. I’m a massive fan and constantly impressed by it every time I use it. It’s a great digital marketing tool offering great competitive research, keyword research tools, link building features as well as on page and technical SEO help. And that’s just for SEO. I haven’t even dug deep into other tools they offer, so I’m quite excited to find some time to play around with it all. Working with Digital ad agencies, it’s important to me that I not only let them take the rein on our digital marketing efforts but also know everything that is going on. With SEMRush, I’m able to see the keywords we’re ranking for and track our position. My favourite features to use are Keyword Magic Tool/ Keyword Overview and Position Tracking.
I’ve only used SEM Rush but I also really want to try Ahrefs so if you’ve used both, please let me know which one is better in the comments down below!
Which other digital marketing tools do you use in your everyday life and cannot live without? I would love to try new software that helps me improve my Marketing skills. Let me know in the comments below!
