Clean girl makeup. It’s all the rage right now. You see it everywhere on Tiktok, and celebrities like Hailey Bieber are sporting it. So, what exactly is clean girl makeup? Well, it’s just very natural makeup, enhanced with some notable features like clear, dewy skin and highlighting facial features that brings out a ‘lit from within’ glow. To help you nail that clean girl aesthetics and rebrand yourself, here are 5 products I recommend having in your makeup bag.
Slick Hair = Snatched Look
Nothing screams a clean girl look than slick back hair (we’ll worry about the damage pulled back styles have on our hair later). To really get that aesthetic, your best friend will be a slick stick that can tame all the fly aways and stick down all the baby hairs. You can get the Slick Stick from your local Coles for ease of convenience. For the girlies on a tight spend, you can use hairspray and then brush the hair down with a teasing brush for that super slick back look. Go creative- you can even use gels, mousses, and water. The hair is your oyster!
Multipurpose Blush Stick For Clean Girl Makeup On The Go
Multi-purpose blush sticks are the ultimate clean girl beauty accessory, and it’s no wonder why. Clean girl makeup is all about adding a healthy flush of colour to your skin, and keeping the colour consistent across your eyelids, cheek and lips will bring the whole look together. I love the Nudestix Blush Sticks as they blend effortlessly with just fingertip application and has great lasting power but any cream blush would do. Try to preserve the dewiness that cream blush offers; it’s the ultimate clean girl makeup vibes. However, oily skin girlies would benefit from setting the cream blush with a little bit of translucent powder to keep the oil gods at bay.
Glossy Lips Are Back
The days of super matte, crusty lips are over! You know what’s in? Juicy, plump lips- and they are not going away. Add a pop of colour to your lips with a lip balm that will not only keep your lips hydrated but also plump it with a glossy shine. Summer Friday has Lip Butter Balms that are vegan-friendly and formulated to soothe and hydrate parched lips in seconds while adding incredible shine minus the stickiness. If you’re on a budget and want to save a bit of cash, I also recommend Frank Body Lip Balms or Lanolips. Make sure to pick a lip balm with nourishing properties as you’ll be applying throughout the day so it’s important that it’s good for your lips!
Before you gloss up those lips, ensure that you prime the canvas so that the gloss has a smooth surface area to stick onto. Dry, flaky lips are never cute so banish them with a good lip scrub. Working in skincare, I’ve learnt that a great lip hack is to use a little eye cream on your lips for extra hydration. Oh, the things you learn in beauty!
Clean Girl Makeup Is Incomplete Without Eyebrow Gel
A true clean girl makeup look is incomplete without laminated brows. Of course, you don’t actually need to get your brows laminated. Instead, you can use a strong eyebrow gel to achieve full and fluffy brows that will frame your face. I have stubborn brows and have tried it all- soap, brow glue and wax. However, I’ve never found any product that helps my eyebrow hairs stick up and stay that way for the whole day. Until now.
The Quick Flick’s Brow Lamination Gel has been a total game changer for my eyebrow game. Not only does the gel tame my eyebrows well, but it also come with two brushes that I find extremely handy. A friend of mine recently recommended Australis Clear Lash & Brow Extender and it also works really well for me as well.
Here is my ultimate tip for your best laminated brows ever: after you brush the gel through your brows and lifted them up, set it immediately by flattening it with the flat side of an object. After flattening, comb and shape your eyebrow hairs to your liking. Make sure you do these steps before the gel completely dries!
Skin Tint For That Glass Skin
The focus of a clean girl makeup look is clear skin. Call it whatever you want, glass skin, cloud skin…in the end, the common factor is having clear skin that looks super natural like you’re not wearing any makeup. If you don’t have amazing skin, don’t worry. Skip that full coverage foundation and use a sheer skin tint that will add glow and radiance to the skin. I really like MAC Cosmetics Studio Radiance Face and Body Radiant Sheer Foundation for a clean girl makeup look. Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint is another fantastic option as well.
If you don’t have a skin tint, you can thin out your regular foundation by mixing it with some moisturiser. If you have any imperfections you want to cover, you can lay the skin tint on first, and then go in with a small concealer brush and some full coverage cream or liquid concealer to spot conceal. Remember, less is more!
